Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!

The kiddies and I have been watching Yo Gabba Gabba! for the past couple of weeks in preparation for the Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! show in Jacksonville.   Confession:  We never watched the show before.  The kids don’t watch too much television so we stick to 3 or 4 shows that they can watch together.  Well, let me tell you, Yo Gabba Gabba! is now a new favorite in our house.

Daniel likes Muno because Muno dresses as a cowboy in the Halloween episode.  (Daniel will be a cowboy this year too.)

And Annabel likes Foofa.  Because Foofa’s pink.

Both kiddies were super excited to see Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! yesterday morning.   Daniel was playing hookey from school so that was also very exciting.  We headed downtown and had a great time.   It’s fun for them to see such a big theatre.   They both love to hand in their tickets and walk to their seats.   Daniel thought the big cardboard cut outs were super neat.  Annabel is still a little young and she was a little antsy but once I bought her the Yo Gabba Gabba! light-up necklace she was just fine.  Plus she had plenty of snacks.

Daniel was a party animal and he danced and sang along the entire time.   He seriously rocked his DJ Lance glasses too.

One of the coolest parts of the show was the balloon song followed by tons of balloons falling from the rafters.  All the kids went nuts while grabbing balloons.  Daniel grabbed a white one for himself and an orange one for his sister.

Thanks Yo Gabba Gabba!  It really was a party in our city.  With extra long naps to follow.

Disclosure:  I received four complimentary tickets to the Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! show in Jacksonville, FL.

Happy Birthday, Baby

My hubbie pointed out that he turned 16 years old yesterday.  Well, TWENTY YEARS AGO.

I think getting older freaks him out.  Until I remind him that, ahem, I am the older one.  So anything negative he says about his age is even more negative for me.

But this isn’t about me.

It’s about you, Baby.  Happy, Happy 16 plus 20 years.   You are still the most handsome, smart, funny, sexy (mad)man in town.

My gift to my hubbie was an autographed "Mad Men" cast photo. We are both obsessed with the show right now. Thank you, Ebay.

Pumpkin Patch ’10

Today was our annual trip to the pumpkin patch!

I dressed the kiddies up in their festive long sleeve fall shirts and it was so HOT that I actually felt a little bad.

But we were only there for about 30 minutes before I quickly ushered them back into the car for some water and air conditioning.

Ah…Florida in the fall.

But, seriously now, the pumpkin patch is one of my all time favorite family activities because we have been going to the same place for four years

Daniel and Annabel had a blast running around the orange rows and picking out pumpkins.  They understand that their pumpkins will soon be turned into Halloween night Jack-0-lanterns.  They love picking out the super small pumpkins and gourds that decorate our table at home.  They love the play tractor.

It’s the first step to get us officially ready for Halloween and the holiday season.

Even if it was 85 degrees outside.

PS – Annabel’s super cute Halloween hair bow and pumpkin socks came from the Target $1 bin.  I heart Tarjay!

Neon Trees: Animal

I’m so loving all these new pop songs that take me back to the 80s.  First, there was THIS awesome tune and now there is Neon Trees’ Animal.  Of course having a female drummer makes it rock even more.

Taylor Swift: PEOPLE Magazine

Taylor Swift is this week’s PEOPLE Magazine cover girl and she will apparently dish about Joe (Jonas), Taylor (Lautner) and, OMG, John (Mayer.)

I can’t wait to get my mail today.

Bikes

It’s FINALLY cooling down here in Florida and it’s the perfect weather for some late afternoon bike riding.  Now that the bikes are back in action, we have realized that both kiddies have almost outgrown them.  Yikes!   But they still love riding to the small pond near our house.   We look at the ducks, pick up some sticks or stones, and ride back.

I can definitely use the walking exercise too.  I hope I am now re-inspired to pick up my nightly walks around the neighborhood.  I just need some updated iPod tunes and a flashlight.  And some serious motivation.

Oh, Hubbie and I are heading out for dinner and drinks now.  There you go.  Some serious motivation.

Happy Friday.

Club Can’t Handle Me – Flo Rida

This song takes me back to college summers when my friends and I would roll out to the clubs downtown and just DANCE.  JUST dance.  For hours.  I love to dance and I can’t even remember the last time I’ve been to an actual club.  But all this week I’ve been dancing to this song in my kitchen while I make my kid’s lunch for school.

It’s THAT good.

Giraffes and Ice Cream Cones

For our Friday night date night, the hubbie and I went to the zoo for their annual “Brew at the Zoo” charity event.  The highlight was (surprisingly) not all the free beer and food samples.  The highlight for me was some alone time with these tall guys and gals.

I love giraffes.  I love them because they are tall like me.  I think their skin color is breathtaking.  I was able to feed a giraffe but darn my camera phone.  The photo came out really blurry.  I need a new phone, but that’s a story for another day and a wish for Christmas.  But I did get this cool shot.  Check out her huge tongue!

On Saturday night we all went out for a family dinner at The Cheesecake Factory.  I was craving some avocado egg rolls.  And a glass of pinot.   The kids love the bread basket and they split the pasta dish from the kids menu.  (That was a tip from our waiter and he was right. It was an enormous portion.)  We walked over to the ice cream parlor for dessert. We ate our drippy cones outside on a bench while the sun was setting.

Annabel was done first and opted to do a little light reading while she waited.

You gotta love Florida.   We’ll still be hanging outside in our T-shirts and shorts (and Hello Kitty skirt sets) for at least another month.  Happy October.

Mad Men Obsession

This is not an entry about Sunday’s Mad Men episode on AMC.  I’m sure it was AWESOME, but I just started watching Mad Men Season Two on DVD.

I never watched Mad Men before and they had another big win at this year’s Emmy Awards.  (Mad Men has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series three years in a row.)

So hubbie and I finally decided, okay, we’ll give this Mad Men show the “one episode try.”

I ordered Mad Men: Season One: Disc One from Netflix and that was it.  We were HOOKED.

It’s SOOO good.

I don’t know how else to say it.  Well, I can say that if you look up “handsome” in the dictionary you will see a picture of this man:

Jon Hamm (as Don Draper) is very easy on the eyes so that is reason number one to be addicted to Mad Men.  (Now there are rumors he will play Superman on the big screen.  AWESOME.)

Watching Mad Men is like being in history class.  I am learning all about the 1960s.  It’s such a blast to see the costumes, the scenery, the historic references, the retro ad campaigns and, OMG!, the drinking and the smoking.   It’s so over the top that the cigarette and the cocktail glass are their own characters at this point.

A big surprise has been the dark side of each of these men and women.  Each episode is a brand new discovery into their secret lives.  It’s so addicting.  We can’t wait to get to the next DVD.

Hubbie and I love this show and we are desperately trying to catch up on DVD while avoiding all the new season spoilers on the Internet.

We are so into this show that we reference it all the time.  Hubbie is now obsessed with martinis and wants a bar cart for his office.  I’m on the search for the perfect pencil skirt.

And we call this Annabel’s Mad Men dress.  (It makes sense.  She is looking very lovely while cooking dinner for the family.)

Season 4 of Mad Men airs Sunday nights at 10 PM EST on AMC.  (The Mad Men Season 1 – 3 DVDs are available now so you can catch up too. I highly recommend you do.)

GLEE: I Want to Hold Your Hand

Wow, Glee

You made me cry last night.  Some of my tears were tears of joy because, after last week’s so-so Britney Spears episode, you came back in a BIG way. “Grilled Cheesus” was the best episode of the season thus far.   (It was an awesome name for an episode AND an awesome storyline to go along with it.)

Most of my tears were from watching Kurt sing this slow and dramatic version of the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”  He was singing to his Dad who was seriously ill in the hospital.   Bravo to Chris Colfer for an amazing performance.

I also have a slight crush on Cory Monteith so I had to include this clip of Finn singing a cover of REM’s “Losing My Religion.”
