John Mayer – Queen of California

I’ve been listening to John Mayer’s new CD, Born and Raised, almost every day because it just calms me. It’s one of those albums you can listen to from start to finish. Every song is great.  I’ve been super stressed out lately and I find comfort in his songs.  I really love this one.  It’s chill with a 70s vibe.  And you gotta love Johnny’s famous guitar solos.  Oh, I can’t wait until he goes on tour again. Soon, soon, I hope.

Call Me Somebody That I Used To Know…Maybe?

Okay, admit.  When these two songs come on the radio you turn them up.  AND you sing along because you know every single word.

And then I found this video floating around Facebook and Twitter. I laughed so hard I cried because…SO TRUE!

I originally fell in love with the Gotye song when my cutie boy Blaine (Darren Criss) sang it on Glee a few months ago.

I always know when there’s a major pop record phenomenon on our hands because my two kids will know all the words.  Daniel came home singing “Call Me Maybe” because his camp counselor played it every morning as he walked into his cabin.  And Annabel will sing the chorus of “Somebody That I Used To Know” like she’s really feeling the pain. She’s FOUR.   These two pop hits are definitely in a major fight for the “Song of the Summer” title.

Which one do you want to win?

Annabel’s First Movie: “Ice Age 4”

After we decided not to take Annabel to Brave as her first “movie theatre” movie, it was on to Plan B. (Daniel’s first theatre movie was Cars 2.)

Plan B. was Ice Age: Continental Drift which opened this weekend.  Our whole family went to today’s first matinee show and Annabel had the Best. Time. Ever.  Annabel has seen Ice Age 1, 2 and 3 at home, so I wasn’t worried about her being scared of any of the characters.  And she is a pretty easy going kid.  I think she loved the snack box and the pre-show arcade fun as much as the movie.  Success!

July Fourth ’12

Happy Birthday America!  I love that we celebrate America’s birthday at the beach.  Every year we spend the same July week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  We stay in the same beach condo.  Sometimes my parents or my sister and her family join us.  But this year, it was just the four of us.  We’ve had an amazing time just hanging out as a family.  We are buddies.  Today was especially fun because we spent the entire morning splashing in the ocean waves.  The kids had their very first root beer float at lunch.  They helped me decorate the room in red, white, and blue.  We took an evening beach walk, flew kites, and searched for sea shells.  All while waiting for the fireworks which we could see perfectly from our balcony.  Daniel was so inspired that he grabbed a sheet of paper and crayons so he could draw the colorful explosions.  This was the first year that Annabel stayed up super late and she loved every minute of it. They are both finally in bed and the fireworks are still booming in the background while I type.

Thanks for an awesome party, America.  God Bless You.
