Happy Monday! Favorite AMA Moments

Happy Monday! Did you stay up late last night (like me) to watch the American Music Awards? I love awards shows because of the cool fashions, the crazy performances, and all the social media commentary. Here are a few of my favorite moments from last night:

1. My girl Taylor looking amazing in a short glittery dress. She also won “Artist of the Year!” Yay!

2. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis rocking hard from Miami with a satellite performance of their major party song,”Can’t Hold Us.” I had just seen the duo live from a parking lot in Jacksonville the day before, so it was super cool to see them perform the same song on the AMAs.

3. JT introducing us to a funky new song, “Drink You Away,” and looking super fine doing it. Justin’s wife, Jessica Biel, was not at the big event which caused twitterverse to explode with assumptions they were having marital trouble. Not so. Jessica tweeted this halfway through the show. You go, girl.

4. This funny capture of Justin going bonkers when he wins the award for best Soul/R&B artist. Taylor is known for always getting overly excited when she wins ANYTHING, so this is a bit of a dig on her. But it’s still cute.

5. Finally, I don’t know if this was a FAVORITE moment, but I can’t leave without mentioning Miley and her space cat performance of “Wrecking Ball.” She knows how to create buzz. Despite the weirdness, Miley can SING. I wish she would sing without all the other “stuff” sometimes. Oh, and that outfit just looks…painful?

Happy Monday! Noah and Allie Back Together Again?

OK Magazine is reporting that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are getting back together. They dated for three years after filming The Notebook back in 2004. The Notebook is one of my FAVORITE movies of all time!  “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.”

Ryan has been dating Eva Mendes for quite awhile, but the word is they are on the rocks. Ryan really wants to get married and have babies and she does not. What?!

I hope this is true because it would be super dreamy for Ryan and Rachel to have a fairtytale ending just like Noah and Allie, the characters they played in The Notebook. Crossing my fingers.

Taylor’s Dresses

My girl Taylor Swift is back in the news. Well, she’s ALWAYS in the news. But usually they like to talk about her boyfriends. Or a song she wrote about an ex-boyfriend. Or a song she wrote about the guy she met for five minutes at an awards dinner. But this time, it’s all about the DRESS.

Here’s Taylor at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show taping. It airs Tuesday, December 10th at 10/9C on CBS so we’ll be able to see this gorgeous silver number in HD!  She’s even wearing the same glittery shoes as the supermodels.

Taylor could seriously be one of the models walking the runway. I also love the straight hair even though I’m pro curls. She wore this colorful beaded mindress by Zuhair Murad on the red carpet. I love the flowers.

Then it was the CMA Awards last week. Taylor showed up to the country show in this red Elie Saab dress to accept her Pinnacle Award. It was perfect.

At the CMA after party, she tossed on this fun Alice + Olivia brocade dress. I found this one at Neiman Marcus online and it’s not priced horribly out of reach. This could be perfect for your daughter’s homecoming? Or maybe your New Year’s Eve party?

I can’t wait to see what Tay wears next!

The End of a Family Tradition

That title sounds a lot more gloomy than I intended. It really has to do with this:

tradition - 1

tradition - 2

tradition - 4

tradition - 3

Daniel can’t fit his face into that wooden football player’s anymore. They both can’t poke their heads out the window of the cute pumpkin carriage. And this:

They are both getting WAY too big to sit on that little blue tractor. The one they have sat on for the past seven years.

My husband and I both looked at each other after we left the little pumpkin patch a few weeks ago and said, “Maybe we should do something else next year? Move on? Start a NEW tradition?”

It’s kinda sad. I’ve had pictures of the kids at this same pumpkin patch every year since they were wee little ones. I’d dress them in western wear or Halloween outfits. We’d always take the mandatory photos and then pick out our Halloween pumpkins. I’d also grab some colorful gourds for the dining table. But we’ve just outgrown it.

It’s funny because I never think about the end when we start a new family tradition. I imagine it being forever. I enjoy traditions because I’m a sentimental person. I love creating memories and experiencing them again year after year. It’s comforting. Most of our traditions are holiday related, but not all of them. We always pick out our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and buy one new ornament every year at the mall. I leave my kids a construction paper note with a small gift on the first day of school. I take them out to lunch on their last day of school. They get a small gift on their half birthdays. We go to the same beach condo every year.

But as they get older, some of these traditions will more than likely fade away. I will seriously weep when we stop visiting Santa. And I know the kids will want to venture out on their summer vacations. And now I need to start looking for a new pumpkin patch. One with more “big kid” things to do. And then the day will come when I’ll just pick up pumpkins at the grocery store on my way home from some school event. And that’s okay.

It’s my life with my family. There are so many moments. So much motion. Every experience is new and exciting and as soon as you figure out the routine and fall into that cozy space, it changes. Not for the bad. But for the new again. You can’t enjoy the same ride too long. You have to finally get off the little blue tractor and let someone else have a turn.
