Although I did love Natalie Portman’s acceptance speech for Black Swan, I have to give my favorite acceptance speech of the night nod to Chris Colfer who plays Kurt on Glee.   This was Kurt’s season to shine and Chris Colfer’s supporting role win was so well deserved.  Congrats!

It was boy band HEAVEN last night on the 2010 American Music Awards.   New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys closed the show in a big way.  They took some advice from the success of Glee and did some really neat song mash ups.  I thought they all looked super cute and did an awesome job.  Now just expand your NKOTBSB tour to more cities, guys!

CMA Awards 2010

I was so excited Miranda Lambert won big last night at the CMA Awards.  She won four awards including Female Vocalist of the Year.  I’m pretty sure it was all because of her amazing song, “The House That Built Me.”  If you have not heard the song yet, you MUST click here

Lady Antebellum won Single of the Year for their massive crossover hit, “Need You Now.”  Gwyneth Paltrow performed the title song from her new movie, Country Strong. I thought she did a good job.  But she is promoting her new movie not entering the world of country music.  Her performance was so hyped in all the CMA promos, it seems a little unfair to all the uber talented ladies of country who were there because they truly are successful country music singers.  Just sayin’.

Taylor Swift didn’t win any awards last night but she had an amazing live performance of “Back to December” – the song supposedly about her former boyfriend Taylor Lautner.  She looked beautiful (What a dress! And awesome red lipstick!) and she played piano while fake snow fell around her.  She did a great job and unexpectedly ended the performance by mouthing “What??” while the curtain closed.  I tweeted about it last night and now Taylor’s rep has told Entertainment Weekly that she was just excited about the standing ovation.

Here’s a clip of Taylor’s performance last night.

GLEE: “Britney/Brittany”

Last night’s Glee broke ratings records.  It was the highest rated Glee show so far.  Maybe it was because of all the early hype, but the Glee “Britney/Brittany” episode last night was, for me, a little disappointing.

I was excited to see how the writers were going to incorporate the Britney Spears hits into a Glee storyline.  But I didn’t like that the Britney song performances were part of dental anesthesia dreams.  There was no real…uh, plot.  I like when Glee just incorporates the music right into the plot line.   It seemed a little strange that the kids were just dying to perform Britney songs at their pep ralley considering their ages.  (They would have been in elementary school for some of Britney’s early hits.)  I also could not stop thinking about the amazing “Madonna” episode last season and this one just did not measure up.  Also, where was Quinn (Dianna Agron) last night?

But there were some things I did like:  Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) singing “(Hit Me) Baby One More Time.”  Artie (Kevin McHale) singing “Stronger.” And all of Brittany’s (Heather Morris) one-liners and dance numbers.  That girl can move and she looked great.

Heather Morris has some major dancing experience too.  Check her out in the video below when she danced right beside BEYONCE (!) at the American Music Awards in 2008!  She definitely stands out as one of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies!”  You go, girl!

Oscars ’10

There are SO MANY reasons to be excited for The Hurt Locker winning SO MANY awards last night, including Best Picture. First, it’s a GREAT film.  Second, it’s one of the only nominated films I was able to squeeze into a Friday night this year, so I was rooting for it all the way.  Third, the movie is so amazingly shot and directed that it feels like a documentary.  Finally, the many strong performances, led by Jeremy Renner, were honest and captivating.

I know Jeremy will be getting film offers left and right.  He’s a super talented (not to mention good looking) leading man.  I read he was romancing Jessica Simpson at a pre-Oscar bash and I think that would be great.  (No matter what you think of Jessica, she definitely needs to find a good man.)

History was also made last night.  It was the first time a female director won the Best Director honor, so that was doubly awesome for The Hurt Locker’s Kathryn Bigelow.  She looked really nervous and truly surprised.  I can’t wait to see what she does next.

I have to mention Sandra Bullock winning Best Actress for The Blind Side.  I loved that her acceptance speech was equally touching and heartfelt as it was cute and witty.  Her husband looked so proud.

Another highlight of the evening was this tribute to the late director John Hughes.  It was so cool to see many members of the original “Brat Pack” on stage to talk about their experiences with the director.  This clip reel of his work really made me remember his many iconic films from the 1980′s that were so REAL and filled with such SOUL.

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did a C+ job as our hosts for the LONG evening.  I will always love Steve Martin.  He’s such a likable Dad from films like Father of the Bride and Parenthood.  I just don’t GET 30 Rock (Sorry!), so it’s hard for me to rally around Alec Baldwin.  I just think of him as the crazy Dad yelling at his daughter on the phone.

Finally, can I PLEASE LOOK LIKE THIS when I’m her age??  Or, right now even?  She looked GORGEOUS and was the best dressed of the night.
