It takes a cool, confident man to rock some plaid high-water pants.
Just sayin’.
Miranda Lambert – The House That Built Me

Here’s another PopMommy confession. I LIKE COUNTRY MUSIC.
Yes, it’s true.
I actually worked in country radio for many years. I was the promotions director. I was in charge of all the fun give-a-ways and I also met a bunch of up and coming artists. The one thing that struck me the most was that the people in the country music industry are the nicest people around. From the record reps to the band roadies. Everyone was just super cool. It made me enjoy the music more. I never really listened to any country music before I worked in country radio (well, aside from some old school country my Dad played when I was growing up.) But I learned to really love it and appreciate it.
I’m a fan of mostly the boys – Kenny, Keith, Toby, Alan, Garth, and the cuties from Rascal Flatts. But there are some great country chicks out there too. Miranda Lambert is one of them.
Miranda Lambert got her big break on Nashville Star which is basically the country version of American Idol. She DIDN’T win. (She was third. I have no idea who actually won. Isn’t that always the case?) But it didn’t matter because she was signed to Sony Music and her debut album went straight to number one. The girl can sing AND write a great song. Like this one which I just heard today while driving the kiddies to their swimming lessons. I was trying not to tear up. I know it’s been out on country radio for awhile, but I just discovered it.
Lucky me.

And apparently Jessica Simpson loves New Kids on the Block too! She wore this vintage NKOTB T-shirt at the launch of her new jeanswear fashion line, Jessica Simpson Jeanswear.
She said her very first concert was…New Kids on the Block.
“They were my life,” she said.
Just stay away from Jordan, girlfriend.

New Kids on the Block performed at New York’s Radio City Music Hall Saturday night and guess who showed up??
The Backstreet Boys! Two for the price of one! (That was a direct quote from Nick Carter.)
It was boy band heaven. And YES, I wish I was there. I guess I’m now a not-so-closeted “Blockhead.” I have lots of stories to share about my teenybopper love for Jordan Knight, but we’ll get to that at a later date. Plus, I think “I Want It That Way” is one of the best pop songs EVER.
So enjoy a little bootleg video from the concert!
Special thanks to the super fan who recorded this ear splitting event.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of John Mayer.
Here’s his latest single and the official music video for “Half of My Heart” featuring Taylor Swift.
Hey, Soul Sister

Not only is this a great pop song, but it’s now officially my daughter Annabel’s “song.”
Daniel already has a couple “songs.” He has Daniel by Elton John and he has Daniel (in the Lion’s Den) which we play all the time on our Raffi CD in the car. The Elton John version comes on the radio all the time and when it does, Daniel likes to yell “Daniel’s song!” and I turn it up so we can all sing along.
Well, there is no song called “Annabel” so we picked Hey, Soul Sister by Train for her because, well, it has SISTER in the title. Plus, it’s a fun song with a great beat and you can dance to it. Enjoy.
One of the BEST pop songs. Ever.

Lee Dewyze “Treat Her Like A Lady”

Well, I started with FOUR favorite American Idol contestants. I now have THREE left in the competition.
That’s pretty darn good.
Lee Dewyze is definitely my front runner. And he had his big MOMENT last night singing “Treat Her Like A Lady.” He’s got such a great voice and a great swagger about him. He just needs to recognize how truly talented he is so he can relax. Hopefully that will boost his confidence and carry him to the finals. He also just seems like such a nice, down to earth guy. Plus, he’s cute.
Here’s Lee’s performance from last night:

I love the new song by Orianthi called “According To You.” My favorite part of the music video is her rocking the guitar with cute purple nail polish. I first saw Orianthi in Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” movie. She was amazing. I’m excited that she’s out on her own and she actually reminds me a little of Kelly Clarkson. I also just really appreciate talented artists who sing and play guitar. Here’s the video:
Yep, I Still Like John Mayer.

At his Philadelphia concert stop last week, John Mayer brought a small fan on stage to play guitar with him. The sixth grade boy wanted to play “Belief” because he secretly learned it for his mother, who loves the song. How sweet is that? And it was super cool of John Mayer to give this sweet boy an experience he will never forget.
Here’s the video.
