Bring on the GLEE!  (But we have to wait until September 21st.  Bummer.)

I can’t believe it’s the Season Finale!  Don’t forget to watch this awesome show.  Tonight at 10 on Bravo.

Thank you, Glee

It was so awesome to see the talented Glee kids reprise Journey’s ”Don’t Stop Believin’,” from the pilot, for their season finale last night.  What an amazing episode.  I especially loved when Finn pulled a Cutting Edge and said “I love you” to Rachel seconds before their Regionals performance began.

So, thanks guys.  Thanks for a great finale.  Thanks for a great season.  Thanks for being a GREAT show.

See you in the Fall.

Grand Finales

I was going to write all about LOST, but then I realized that I needed to acknowledge some of the other awesome show enders this season on television.  I may be in the minority on some of these, but I have been surprisingly satisfied with the following grand finales.

*NOTE: LOTS O’ SPOILERS AHEAD*

LOST

ABC/MARIO PEREZ

ABC/MARIO PEREZ

Thank you, LOST.  I was able to love you all over again.  Because you really did LOSE me a little this final season.  But I love how you finally returned to your core and came full circle with all the characters. You brought many familiar faces back for the finale.  The show became about these people again and how they met, how they loved each other, how they needed each other, and how they moved on.

This past season I was really checking out.  I was getting frustrated with that whole sideways world.  Now it all makes sense to me.  Well, as much as it CAN make sense.  I guess I choose to look at the series finale episode as a well-acted, beautifully shot, emotional fulfilling episode.  I choose NOT to look at it as a frustrating lot of loose strings. I understood it like this:  The characters had to go to their sideways world (purgatory) to meet up with their soul mates and then move on (to their after-life).  I especially loved the scene when Sawyer and Juliet remembered each other.

Jack’s death on the island in the final scene was perfect.  I loved how Jack made peace with his father, a literal “Christian Shepherd.”  Jack  joined all the souls who were most important to him and then he died - in the exact same spot where he awoke after the Oceanic plane crash.  The eye closing shot was brilliant.  It closed the show perfectly and, hopefully, gave fans a little of their own closure.  Well, at least, THIS fan.  I loved it.

GREY’S ANATOMY

ABC/DANNY FELD

ABC/DANNY FELD

Holy Bloodbath, Batman!  The Grey’s season finale was incredibly heart wrenching and literally blood pumping.  Dr. Bailey’s scenes with the patient (guest star Mandy Moore) and the intern Charles were some of the best acting on TV all season.  When Dr. Bailey was hiding from the shooter and then she pretended to be a nurse, well that was Chandra Wilson winning the Emmy.  Speaking of winning an Emmy, Michael O’Neil (gunman Gary Clark) should also be accepting one.  He was breathtaking and terrorizing.

April the intern was a highlight when she told that story that saved her life.  She had her moment.  I also think Ellen Pompeo is underrated as an actress. She definitely knows how to navigate her character’s feelings with detail and emotion.  When Meredith and the intern were sitting on the floor while McDreamy was getting operated on by her BFF Cristina, that was perfection.  And then Meredith’s scene when she said she would sacrifice her life for Derek’s life and THEN she has a miscarriage before she can even tell Derek she was pregnant?  HEARTBREAKING.   Grey’s needed this season finale to keep us all on board.  It did not disappoint.  I knew they had nailed it when I was lying awake that night still thinking about it.

GOSSIP GIRL

Chuck gets shot and lays bleeding in the street while trying to save the engagement ring that Blair refused?  What is going on??  There is a lot of violence on TV but this one was a shocker.  Usually I’m just shocked by the underage sex scenes on GG, but that ending just threw me.  And speaking of sex scenes, what is up with Jenny losing her virginity to Chuck?  I did NOT see that coming, which, I guess, was the point.  I don’t know if it’s a GOOD thing to say that was just, well, GROSS, but I was excited to see Jenny leave the city to spend some much needed time with her Mama.  Maybe she’ll be back next season but she definitely needs the time away to reinvent herself.   And please Gossip Girl, I love Chuck and Blair so hopefully next season you can also reinvent their relationship too, or this might be my last year watching.

AMERICAN IDOL

Yahoo!  Lee Dewyze wins!  He was in my fab four back at the beginning of the season.  I agree with Simon when he said THIS  is what the show is all about:  Finding a talented singer who needs a break. Lee is a talented singer and musician who was working in his hometown paint store when he auditioned for Idol.  And he made it all the way to the end. Sometimes nice guys do finish FIRST.  You go, Lee! Enjoy the ride.

I loved seeing Paula Abdul and Bret Michaels on the Idol stage.  The rest of the finale was just okay.  But Lee getting the first place prize made the night very sweet and memorable for me.  I’m not sure what will happen next year with no Simon on Idol.  I might only be recapping the finale of The X Factor.

I’m posting some super cute photos of my daughter while I sit and think about the series finale of LOST.

Wow, that was GOOD stuff.  I’m going to TRY and write about it all tomorrow.

Meanwhile, here’s Annabel. The temperature in Florida has hit the 90′s.

Obviously, she is already wishing for snow.

I started with FOUR favorite American Idol contestants.

(I picked my fab four back in February when there were 24 contestants).

And guess what?  I still have TWO contestants left!

Go Casey!  Go Lee!  I can’t wait to see your hometown visits next week.

PS:  I was talking to my husband last night about Lee and isn’t he SO Saturday Night Fever?  I mean, he worked in a PAINT STORE and now he’s singing on a stage in front of millions.  LOVE it.

Parenthood

I don’t know why I have not mentioned this earlier, but I ADORE the new TV show Parenthood.  It airs Tuesday nights at 10 PM EST on NBC. It’s loosely based on the hit movie Parenthood and Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are executive producers.   I hope YOU watch it too.  And YOU.  And YOU.  Why?  Because I don’t want it to go away.

I have settled into my warm and comfy place with this show, so now I have to wonder –  is anyone else watching it?

parenthood-cast-450

There was this show on TNT called Trust Me. It starred Tom Cavanagh (from Ed) and Eric McCormack (from Will and Grace.)  It was about two friends/advertising agency partners in Chicago and it was a GREAT show.  But no one else, besides me and my hubbie, watched it.  Apparently.  Because it was canceled after one season.

Ironically, Monica Potter, who also starred in Trust Me, is now in Parenthood.  And she is terrific.  She’s the most relatable for me and I love her relationship with her husband played by Peter Krause (from Six Feet Under).

I, of course, have to mention that Lauren Graham is also one of the stars of Parenthood. I knew I was going to love the show after she joined the cast.  She was also the star of Gilmore Girls, which still holds its place as one of my favorite television shows OF ALL TIME.  I even have all the seasons on DVD waiting in my TV cabinet for when Annabel is older and we can sit down and watch them together.  I loved that show so much that I ALMOST named my son Logan because he was Rory’s boyfriend.  Lorelei was also on the long list of names for Annabel.

But back to Parenthood.  Watch it, won’t you?  It’s a GREAT show and I think it’s the perfect companion to Modern FamilyModern Family is laugh out loud funny. Parenthood is its dramatically sweet counterpart. It features the trials of being a working mom while your stay-at-home husband gets hit on by the hotties in the mommy group.  It shows how frustrating it is to be a single mom back in the dating game.  It has a sweet storyline about raising a child with Asperger’s.  My favorite part is that the family is a true unit as the brothers and sisters are each other’s main confidantes.  Is this true to real life?  I don’t know, but it sure makes for good TV viewing.

Check it out.  You won’t be sorry.

Work Hard. Be Kind.

work-hard-be-kind

I’ve been so busy packing boxes for our move to a new house this weekend that I forgot to comment about Conan O’Brien’s final broadcast of “The Tonight Show.”  When I lived in New York City over 15 years ago, I saw a taping of “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”  I went alone because, at the time, Conan’s show had only been on the air for a year and he had a much smaller following. No one in my circle of friends was interested in showing up early to get a ticket to a 4 PM taping. But I was able to leave work early to do just that.  It wasn’t hard to get a ticket but the theater did fill up with loyal fans.  I don’t even remember who the guests were that day because I just remember Conan being, well, awesome.  He was vibrant and funny and really, really tall. He was dancing around the room and in the aisles before the show.  He would dance with everyone who asked.  This was all before Ellen made it popular.  I had fun and I felt like I was a part of something cool.  It didn’t matter that I went alone.  I wasn’t alone in that room.  It was a blast.

It really stinks that Conan only held the reins of the lengedary ”Tonight Show” for a short seven months.  He stepped down last Friday, January 22nd. I almost thought he wouldn’t step down after the amazing amount of support everyone was showing him on blogs, on Facebook, on Twitter, and even in an impromptu Los Angeles rally.

What I really love about Conan is epitomized in his final words.  He was sincere and honest.  He was so passionate about his job.  And he left us all with a great message.  “If you work really hard and you’re kind…amazing things will happen.”  Work Hard.  Be Kind.  I’m adding that to my list of inspirational mantras.  Thanks, Conan.  See you soon.
