The Final Oprah Winfrey Show

I just ugly cried through the entire final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. It was perfect. No guests. No fanfare. No “Favorite Things” to hand out. Just Oprah talking about the lessons she has learned and the wisdom she wants to pass along to us, her faithful viewers. (And she looked so pretty in a beautiful pink dress with ruffles down the front.)
My awesome hubbie took the kiddies to the library and out for smoothie treats so I could watch the final Oprah alone, in my family room, on the coach with my Starbucks and a box of tissues. And I definitely needed those tissues. Not because the show was particularly sad, but because she spent the hour reminding me, once again, to keep life in perspective. To live with passion and love. To help others. To trust my gut. To listen to my inner voice. To find my calling. I’ve struggled a lot lately with the thought of what I’m going to do when both my kiddies go to school full time. Will I get a regular job? What is God’s plan for me? What is my purpose?
Oprah always reminded me that everyone carries the same desires: to be seen, to be heard, to know that they matter. Oprah always said that we matter because we were born. That is the strongest message I want to pass along to my children. That they MATTER. That they serve a purpose. They just need to figure out what that is and they need to follow their hearts. I need to remember this lesson too.
I’m excited that Oprah has her OWN Network. I’ve already been watching a lot of that programming. But it won’t be the same without The Oprah Winfrey Show. I’ll miss you, Oprah. But I’ll always remember to live my best life.
“Until we meet again, to God be the glory” – Oprah’s final words on her show.
Oprah’s Big Farewell

It’s official. I will never see a live taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Boo. I did try to get some last minute tickets for her final season but everything is a lottery and it was basically impossible. I had a plan that if I did manage to win one single ticket, I would fly by myself to Chicago so I wouldn’t miss that opportunity of a lifetime.
But Oprah taped her final two shows last night in Chicago. It was called Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular and it was held at the United Center with 13,000 audience members. (And I still could not get a ticket!) Below are some photos of the surprise guests. These celebrity filled shows will air on Monday, May 23rd and Tuesday, May 24th. The final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show will air on Wednesday, May 25th after 25 years. (The content of that show is still under wraps.) I’m getting my tissues ready now.

Here’s a sneak peek of Lady Gaga performing on one of the final Oprah shows. She sings “You and I” which, interestingly enough, Haley Reinhart just performed on American Idol last night. Check out her high heel piano and you can’t miss that face mask. She’s one of a kind.

New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys performed their new single, “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” on Dancing with the Stars last night. But my favorite moment was when Donnie and Joey from New Kids performed a dance number at the end of “Step by Step.” Check it out below.
Parenthood on NBC

I’ve already written about my love for the NBC show Parenthood. My favorite “Gilmore Girl,” Lauren Graham, plays the complicated Sarah. She’s great in this role but I really do fall in love with a different character each week. This week’s episode showcased the awesome Mae Whitman who plays Sarah’s rebellious daughter Amber. All the kids on the show are amazingly talented. Here’s a touching scene featuring Amber and her Grandpa (the also awesome Craig T. Nelson) after Amber survived a car accident. Can you tell I really LOVE this show?
Please watch it so it doesn’t go away. Tuesday nights at 10 PM EST on NBC. (You can also watch full episodes on-line.)

Happy Friday! Yahoo!!
And do you know WHY I’m so happy?? Well….
1. Grey’s Anatomy ROCKED LAST NIGHT. (I may be in the minority here, but I thought it was just awesome.)
2. I survived Spring Break week with both kiddies at home! We had some great adventures: bike rides, park fun, lunch at Panera, a bookstore visit, library craft day, and a perfect rainy afternoon watching Tangled on DVD. We ended the week at the MOSH in downtown Jacksonville. Here they are goofing around in the indoor tree house.
3. I’m going out to Happy Hour with the hubbie tonight! I don’t know the last time I went out for Happy Hour. It was definitely pre-kiddies.
Finally, I leave you with the biggest viral video of the week. It now has over 72 million views on YouTube! It’s Rebecca Black singing “Friday.” Very appropriate. She’s only 13 years old and I think she’s pretty darn awesome too.
Grey’s Anatomy: The Music Event Sneak Peek

Get the tissues ready for this Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy: The Music Event. It features Sara Ramirez (Callie) having an out of body experience while she sings for her life after a truly horrible car accident. We don’t know yet whether her baby will live or even if SHE will live.
Sara is no stranger to singing. She won a Tony Award for Spamalot. The rest of the Grey’s cast sings too and they say it will be one of the most dramatic and touching episodes of the season. I thought at first that the “trying to be like Glee” thing would be cheesy, but now I’m convinced this episode is going to rock! (And force me to drink lots of red wine too.)
Here’s the Sneak Peek. (I’m crying already!)

Jon Hamm is one handsome guy. I love him in Mad Men. It’s one of my favorite television shows. And he just turned 40! We are the same age! Whoot!
Mandi Bierly from Entertainment Weekly celebrated Jon Hamm’s 40th birthday by posting 40 amazing photos of him on their website. It was such a treat and I wanted to share the #1 photo with you here. (I also wanted to make sure it was on PopMommy so I could come back and look at it when I’m having a bad day. Hee.)
Enjoy!
My American Idol Favorites ’11

I’ve picked my four favorite American Idol contestants for Season 10. I did this last year and one of my picks actually won the whole thing and became the American Idol! (Lee Dewyze. Remember him?)
I’ve decided to abandon my two girls and two boys rule. I just think the boys have more potential this season. I’m excited.
Good luck, guys! (and gal!)

My husband is a morning radio host and he gets to do A LOT of cool things. This week he was featured on Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible. The show was in town to help renovate a local restaurant and they all stopped by my hubbie’s radio studio to talk about the experience.
He’s the cute one behind the microphone.
