Yep, I Still Like John Mayer.

At his Philadelphia concert stop last week, John Mayer brought a small fan on stage to play guitar with him.  The sixth grade boy wanted to play “Belief” because he secretly learned it for his mother, who loves the song.  How sweet is that?  And it was super cool of John Mayer to give this sweet boy an experience he will never forget.

Here’s the video.

John Mayer

Here’s the thing. I don’t get out much anymore.  I used to go to bars and parties and movie premieres and concerts.  I used to go to A LOT of concerts.  But since I became a Mom, I’ve definitely fallen into the cliché (that’s actually NOT a cliché) of staying home and enjoying a Netflix movie and a bottle of wine with my hubbie on a Saturday night.  This is my NEW fun.  And it really is fun.

But I went to the John Mayer concert last night. I was really excited because I’ve always liked John Mayer’s music.  Plus, he’s really good looking.  Yeah, I know he’s been a tabloid fixture lately with his personal life dating sagas. Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston and MAYBE Taylor Swift, although I sincerely doubt that last one.  I just appreciate an artist who is a TRUE artist.  He writes all his songs.  He plays the guitar.  Man, he REALLY plays that guitar.

I really prepared for this concert too.  I wanted to make sure I knew ALL the John Mayer songs and not just the John Mayer songs I’ve heard on the radio.  Santa gave me the Continuum and Battle Studies CDs in my Christmas stocking this year.  I’ve been listening to both CDs since Christmas morning.  I truly fell in love with all the music. I started to forget about all that other John Mayer “stuff” and really listen to the songs he wrote.  “Gravity” is so beautiful.   “Edge of Desire” is sexy and sad.  “Do You Know Me” is haunting.  And “Half of my Heart” constantly thumps around in my head.

Half of my heart is a shot gun wedding

To a bride with a paper ring

And half of my heart is the part of a man

Who’s never truly loved anything.

I really like this line because I want to believe that is the real John Mayer.  The guy who SEEMS misunderstood when it comes to love, but really, he gets who he is.  And he is such a talented performer.  The concert was so much fun.  I was really inspired.  He played tons of songs from Battle Studies and I loved that he kicked it off with “Crossroads.”  He also had great favorites mixed in like “Say” and “Waiting on the World To Change” and, of course, “Why, Georgia,” an amazing live song.  He sounded great and he looked great and he wailed on the guitar like he was having the time of his life.  And he said “Thank You.”  A LOT.

No, THANK YOU, John.  It was an awesome night.  And thank you for being SO COOL in person.  Even though our meeting was short and sweet, I’ll never forget it.  You’ve got another life long fan.  (O.M.G.  I met John Mayer!!)

Now THIS is the performance I wanted to see on the American Music Awards.  Hopefully there is more of THIS in your future.  You are an amazing singer and performer, Adam.  (Plus, might I add, you are incredibly handsome.) You don’t need all that other “stuff” to get my attention.  You’ve got it when you sing a song like THIS:

The Year of Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was named Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Awards last week and that pretty much said it all.  She truly is the Entertainer of the Year.

taylor-swift-cmas350

She is the face of country music. She is the face of pop music.  Best of all, she is the face of teen celebrity and that is a sigh of relief for many moms of young girls right now.  She is a great role model.   She is a talented artist who writes her own music, plays the guitar, and sings.  (She doesn’t just dance and lip sync around the stage in tight clothes.) She twitters and really appreciates her young fans.   She likes her parents and has a great relationship with her mom who is always with her at press events and appearances.  She is not drinking underage or hanging out all night at dance clubs.  She  also showed us that she has a wicked sense of humor with this fun opening monologue on Saturday Night Live.

I opened the mailbox today to find her staring at me (in 3-D!) as the cover girl on InStyle Magazine.  She looks gorgeous and glamorous and, might I add, age appropriate.  I especially love that she is super tall (5′11″) and has curly hair (”I love it when girls rock curly hair!” she says in InStyle)  just like my baby girl Annabel.  The article confirms again that she doesn’t drink or smoke and that her answers to questions “come out in long, perfectly formed sentences mostly free of ‘ums,’ ‘likes,’ or slang.”  I pray she understands how important it is to be a great role model.  I hope she remains untainted by all her fame and fortune.

Taylor will also make an appearance in the new romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” which opens nationwide February 12th. It’s from the director of “Pretty Woman” and stars a megawatt cast of A-listers including Julia Roberts, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, and Jessica Biel.  But the only buzz I’ve read about this movie so far is that Taylor Swift kisses that boy from the “Twilight” movie. (!)

This truly is the Year of Taylor Swift.,

Michael Jackson’s “This Is It”

Saturday was Date Night!  Hubbie and I went out for pizza, beer and a movie.  We loved all three.  We saw Michael Jackson’s This Is It.

This Is It is as equally entertaining as it is sad to watch.  I didn’t understand how close Michael was to his world tour until I saw the movie.  There were elaborate sets, video screens, new dancers, and fanfare all ready to go.  Michael looked like he was still at the top of his game.  His voice sounded great.  He was in control.  His dancing was impeccable.  It was fun to see the flock of newbie dancers in awe of his talent. Then he lost his life.

Most importantly, his music is undeniable.  I was trying to stop myself from jumping out of my theatre seat to dance! He performed  “Beat It,” “Thriller,” “Billy Jean,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Jam.”  It was going to be the concert of a lifetime.

I want to give a special shout out to Orianthi who was Michael Jackson’s rockin’ lead guitar chick.  She is talented and super gorgeous and I’m sure she will be a huge success on her own.  It is sad that no one got to see her perform with MJ in concert.  It is sad that all those amazing dancers didn’t get to tour with their hero.

But I’m so glad they released this film.  It truly is a great final tribute to the King of Pop.

Okay.  I don’t LOVE that he talks about getting stoned.

But this is a cool song, an awesome video, and a VERY pretty boy.

Happy 40th Gwen Stefani

I love Gwen Stefani.

Playtime Mama Gwen!

I met her once backstage at a concert.  I really wanted my No Doubt Rolling Stone cover signed, but we were only allowed to take some quick photos of the group.  I stuck around until the end and kinda pushed my way to where Gwen was standing.  I remember she was really tall, had on tons of make-up, and was, of course, gorgeous. She graciously signed my magazine while her bodyguards cursed me out.  (That’s what they get paid to do - I totally get it.)

There was a time when I thought Gwen and I led parallel lives.  She’s married to a rock star.  I’m married to a radio star.  She had a son.  Then, I had a son. (She was the reason I bought this baby sling.  She rocked it, so I wanted it.) She’s a blonde.  I’m a blonde.  Well, at least I can dream that I will look half as amazing as she does when I turn 40.  Happy Birthday Gwen!

How cute is Zuma sleeping next to Gwen? A-DORABLE!

Loving Adam Lambert

Even while getting “attacked” by the paparazzi, Adam Lambert is still a nice guy and a class act.  (But he should probably not be going out alone!) There were some recent reports that Adam had turned into a DIVA, but that is obviously not true.  He is also supposed to “tell all” in an upcoming Rolling Stone article.  Honestly, I just don’t care.  I just want to buy his album.

And this is just TOO CUTE for words.  Everyone is falling in love with Adam - even babies :)
