After watching American Idol “Hollywood Week,” my new favorite contestant has emerged: Robbie Rosen from Merrick, NY.
Robbie is only 16 years old and he can sing and play piano. I love his voice. And he sure is a cutie. I can’t find his Hollywood Week video clip, but here is his very first audition and also his back story.

On Thursday evening, the final American Idol audition was from 15 year old Georgia native Lauren Alaina. Steven Tyler basically declared her a finalist. Jennifer Lopez was moved to tears. Lauren has that wonderful combination of being sincere, cute, and super talented. I also love her country flavor.
Lauren and Chris Medina are definitely my two favorites right now. Here’s Lauren’s audition (in case you missed it):

WOW.
I was watching American Idol on Wednesday and the final Milwaukee contestant was Chris Medina. Chris told the heartbreaking story about his fiancee Juliana. He is so amazing and mature for being only 26 years old. He is also the epitome of a great guy. Here’s the amazing story and his awesome audition.
An American Idol Rebirth

I’m giving the new and improved American Idol an “A.” It grabbed me in the first five minutes with an exciting opening segment that reintroduced us to the brand new panel of judges: Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson. Two of those judges are the biggest rock and pop stars on the planet. Way to come back in a big way for Season 10, Idol.
I was surprised that Steven Tyler was so soft and lovable. Aside from a few really silly (and weird) comments about some of the girls’ outfits, his critique of the contestants was thoughtful, humorous and spot on. He was not mean (it looks like no one is filling those mean shoes this season). He was honest and legitimately seemed excited by some of the kids, often banging the table to help keep beat or singing and swaying along. I loved it.
J-Lo looked amazing and I can’t even imagine how some of these kids can stand and sing in front of her after watching her in movies and on MTV all these years. She is taking on the “sweet” role but, unlike Paula, she doesn’t have big syrupy statements. Rather she talks like a caring big sister and often looked completely uncomfortable saying ”no” to anyone, even the, um, BAD ones. I thought it made her real and more “Jenny from the Block” again.
Randy helps keep the American Idol as we know it in place while bringing his own producer credibility back to the panel. The Dawg actually seems more comfortable and forthcoming with his comments now that the other British guy isn’t there anymore. (Did Randy lose more weight again? He looks great.)
I’m really excited. I’m predicting a successful season, especially after checking out some of these early gold ticket holders. And with the new panel of judges, it’s looking like American Idol is back and better than ever.
Simon WHO?
5 Questions: Casey from TLC’s “Quints by Surprise”

I’m excited to introduce my brand new PopMommy feature, “5 Questions.” Special thanks to super mom Casey Jones from the TLC show Quints by Surprise for being my very first guest.
Ethan and Casey Jones were grade school sweethearts who married after college and had their first daughter, Eliot. When they were ready to give Eliot a baby brother or sister, they were surprised to find out they were having quints! They soon welcomed girls Brooklyn, Ryan, Britton, Lila and their first son, Jack. They currently live in Austin, TX and the show is all about the challenges and joys of raising five new babies, especially in this challenging economy.
5 Questions: Casey Jones from TLC’s “Quints by Surprise“
1. Hi Casey. Your show is called “Quints by Surprise.” What has been the biggest surprise since you’ve had the new babies?
CJ: I would have to say that the biggest surprise is how much you can handle when you have no other choice! I never would have guessed that I could handle having so many kids and I never knew it would be so much fun…in spite of the craziness!
2. What is the best thing about doing the reality show “Quints by Surprise?”
CJ: We have a great time with the show! It’s a lot of fun working with the crews and getting to know them all and we have great videos of all of our family’s adventures!
3. What is your best advice for new moms of multiples?
CJ: Have fun!! Don’t let the stress and the worry and the work of it all win! If you do, you’ll miss out on some amazing times with your babies!
4. Besides your own show, what is some “must watch” television (or children’s DVDS) in the Jones’ house?
CJ: We don’t really get to watch much TV anymore, but we used to love Lost, 24, and DWTS (Dancing with the Stars.) For the kids, Baby Einstein is a must! Though now they are really into Blue’s Clues, Sesame Street, and Barney.
5. Finally, we all know the success of the pop group the Jonas Brothers. Well, how about the Jones Sisters and a Brother? Are the kids musical?
CJ: The kids do love to dance…especially Jack and Brooklyn!! Who knows???
Casey and family have just wrapped up their very first season of Quints by Surprise and I’m crossing my fingers for season 2. If you love the show, like I do, help bring it back to TLC by clicking here. Also leave a comment for me below.
Brad Goreski leaves Rachel Zoe Show

Oh no! This is BANANAS! Brad was the main reason I watched The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo TV!
Don’t get me wrong. I like Rachel Zoe. She’s the celebrity stylist who always tries to convince us her clients will be going to the Oscars nude if the perfect designer dress does not arrive in time. She’s funny. And I like her vintage style. And she can sure rock a big pair of sunglasses.
But Brad was just so cute. Oh, well. I’m sure he’ll get his own show too.
American Idol Judges: Jennifer Lopez & Steven Tyler

The summer rumors were true.
Jennifer Lopez & Steven Tyler will be joining Randy Jackson as the American Idol judges for Season 10.
I just love how Ryan Seacrest is in the photo too.
The question now is who will be the “mean judge?” J-Lo seems like she could be very feisty, but I’m betting on Steven Tyler. I think he has seen it all and won’t hold back his opinion. He will be a good “Simon.”
Jennifer probably does not want to upset her loyal fan base so she might be taking the Paula Abdul “motherly” route.
I was never a fan of the four judge panel so I’m excited they stopped at three judges. I think this will be an interesting combo so I applaud the producers. They definitely need to breathe new life into the franchise and I sincerely hope they can do it.
American Idol Season TEN premieres January 2011.

The Hills – The Rest Is Not Unwritten

I was getting bored watching the series finale of MTV’s The Hills last night. I already knew I liked Lauren “LC” Conrad better than the f-bomb throwing Kristin Cavallari. I skipped a couple of episodes this season so I was playing a bit of catch up with the crew. (It wasn’t that hard.) And “Speidi” (the crazy, yet super media savvy, couple Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag) were not even in The Hills finale. WHAT?

'The Hills' cast (clockwise from l.): Lo Bosworth, Kristin Cavallari, Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port and Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag. (Getty; WireImage)
But then, BAM! The big surprise ending. Brody Jenner is waving a (sorta) tearful goodbye to Kristin who is heading off to Europe for the summer. Just then the iconic Hollywood sign behind Brody starts to move and it is revealed that he is on a sound stage. The cameras and crew members come out. Brody starts to smile and clap. The car with Kristin stops and she runs over to give Brody a finale hug. (And…SCENE.)
Hilarious. One of the best finales ever. I loved it. I’m glad they FINALLY let us in on the joke. I think we all suspected the show was mostly scripted, didn’t we? But then I read about these “characters” constantly in US Weekly and various entertainment websites. Were they really fighting or hooking up? Was it all fake? I mean Heidi’s ten plastic surgeries can’t be staged? I will admit it was hard to believe Kristin and Justin Bobby ever liked each other when they were dating. And then I read about Brody dating pop star Avril Lavigne (he tweets about it too) while he is supposedly single on The Hills and heading to Costa Rica with Kristin and the gang for an impromptu vacation.
So now I’m left thinking about The City and The Jersey Shore and all the other MTV reality shows. (Or ALL reality shows for that matter.) Should I now assume most of them are scripted? Or at least partially scripted?
The answer is probably yes, but either way, that Hills ending was genius MTV. Just genius.
