Emmy Awards 2010: Opening Skit

This was one of the BEST opening skits.  EVER.  Jimmy Fallon was a great host all around and you gotta love my girl Kate Gosselin.  She always knows where to pop up, doesn’t she?

Emmy 2010: Predictions

Who will win tonight?  Below are my last minute predictions for “Best Drama” and “Best Comedy.”

Fingers crossed.

Now I’m off to watch all the fancy dresses on E! News Live from the Red Carpet.

S’mores

As part of last week’s family road trip, we stopped off at my sister’s gorgeous house in Maryland for two nights.

It’s really great because her kids and my kids are super close.  We love that they are cousins and friends too.  They run around and play and color and dance and swim and are mischievous together and it’s just the best.

The first night there we had a fun make-your-own mini pizza dinner. Then my sister said we are having S’MORES for dessert.

“Um, when did you get a fire pit in your backyard, Sis?”

NOT NECESSARY.  All you need are three ingredients and a microwave.  Hey, this is my kind of dessert.

(I don’t cook. I bake.  A little.)

My sister said the s’mores were her daughter Maddie’s idea.  So here is the super simple recipe for:

MADDIE’S S’MORES

* Take one graham cracker square

* Place two squares of Hershey’s Chocolate Bar on the graham cracker square

* Place four mini marshmallows on the chocolate

* Top with another graham cracker square

* Nuke in microwave for 20 seconds and enjoy!

The kids just loved them!

Don’t you just love the chocolate mouths?  And that’s Baby Luke having just the graham cracker. (Next year, Buddy.)

The adults loved them too.  They went great with our white wine and game of Balderdash that night.  Have you ever played this game?  It is downright addicting.

Just like the s’mores.

Elin Finally Speaks: PEOPLE Magazine Exclusive

I can not wait to read this week’s PEOPLE Magazine.

Elin Nordegren breaks her silence now that her divorce is final from Tiger Woods.

I still wonder what the heck he was thinking.  She is a beautiful mom with two beautiful children.

You can read the PEOPLE Magazine story HERE.

The Giving Tree

We just got back from a week long road trip to visit my family in Maryland and North Carolina.

We make this trip ALOT.

But there was something very different when I pulled into my parents’ driveway this time.

The tree in the front yard was gone.

The tree was getting old and my parents were worried about the super large branches actually falling on the roof of the house so they had it removed.   Well, everything except the stump.

That’s getting picked up and taken away next week.

It reminded me of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein which, IRONICALLY, Daniel got from his godmother as an early birthday gift.

I love that book.

I love trees.  I think it has to do with my love for old things and shade.  I love a big, old shady tree.

I’m not overly obsessive.  I wouldn’t protest and live in a tree.  But I MIGHT hug one.

My kids know how much I love trees.  We’ll be driving in the car and Daniel will point to trees all the time and say, “Mama, you like that one?  You like that tree?  You love trees, right Mama?”

I do love trees.

My dream is to have a birch tree in my front yard.  They are just so pretty.  I have the “Silver Birch Forest” screen saver photo on my laptop computer.

It makes me happy.

So it’s a little sad that the big old tree in the front yard of my childhood home is gone.

But it makes sense.  It was a giving tree.

It gave me and my brother and my sister some great memories.

And now it just gave one to my son.

Thanks, Tree.

One of the BEST Pop Songs. Ever.

I know some people will say (Hit Me) Baby One More Time is Britney Spears’ best pop song ever, but I disagree.  Toxic was Brit’s comeback hit after being away from the charts for awhile.  And she came back in a BIG way.

Britney is now confirmed to make a cameo in an episode of GLEE this Fall.  The entire episode will be dedicated to her and her music.

I hope they perform this song.

20 Questions

More like 200 questions.

My son Daniel turns 4 at the end of this month and he is smack dab in the “everything is a question” phase.  EVERYTHING is WHY? and HOW?  It’s cute and funny and exhausting and sometimes frustrating (when I don’t know the answer, that is.  Let’s be honest.)

His favorite questions surround the day’s meals.  How do you make oatmeal? How do you grow blueberries?  How do you make cereal?  How do you make toast? How do you make the bread?  Why is the edge of the bread browner than the middle of the bread? How do you make milk?  Why is it white? How do you make strawberry jam?  Why is it bumpy? How do you make green beans?  Why are they green?  Why is ice cream cold?

And it continues on and on and on.  How do you make french fries?  Why is ketchup in a bottle?  How do you make turkey meatloaf? How do you make chicken?

(I always cringe a little talking about the animals we eat.  Thank goodness he has not associated eating chicken with killing a chicken.  At least not yet. )

It is very interesting because all these daily questions force me to be on my “A” game.  He’s smart enough to follow along and when we talk about how you have to plant seeds to grow different fruits and veggies, he called me and my husband on it.  He said how do BANANAS grow because they don’t HAVE seeds?  How does THAT work, Mama and Daddy?

Turns out you plant the banana leaves.  Thank you, Google.

He asks the general curious everyday questions that you would expect – why is the sky blue?  But then he asks how the clouds make rain and why does it thunder and lightning and I try to answer everything as simply as I can.  Short and sweet.  Because sometimes it can turn into a 30 minute back and forth session of more questions and I fear I’m confusing him.

Or he’s confusing me.

And he notices every little thing.  He asks me how  the refrigerator door connects to the refrigerator.  He asks my husband why we have a new license plate on the car.  He asks why I moved a book or changed a purse or drove a different way to the library.

He asks where all his body parts come from and how did he get his hair, his blue eyes, his white teeth.

He also uses his “whys” to question my authority.  Why do I have to clean my room?  Why do I have to brush my teeth now? Why do I have to put pants on?  Why do we have to go to swimming lessons today?  Why do I have to wear a Polo shirt to church? Why? Why? Why?

BECAUSE I SAID SO, Daniel.

(Okay.  I get it now, Mom and Dad.)

PS: Guess what hubbie just sent me a link for?  This brand new BIG Book of Why: 1,001 Facts Kids Want To Know.  I’m ordering it for (me and) Bean. Pronto.

Bethenny Getting Married? Season Finale: Sneak Peek

I can’t believe it’s the Season Finale!  Don’t forget to watch this awesome show.  Tonight at 10 on Bravo.

Annabel’s Curls

My daughter’s curls are her trademark.  She looks beautiful with curly hair.  It suits her so well.

And her curls looked the best during our beach vacation.  It was something about the pool and the ocean and the salty air that made them look perfect.

Perfectly Annabel.
