Stingy: Jordan Knight feat. Donnie Wahlberg

Here’s the official music video for Jordan Knight’s new song, Stingy.  Okay, I’ll admit. I did not LOVE this song the first time I heard it.  And I’m a HUGE fan of Jordan and the New Kids on the Block.  But this super hot video is convincing me that this song is pretty darn good.  It also features my sister’s favorite, Donnie Wahlberg (or D-Dub. Hee.)

Kites

One of the highlights of our beach vacation this year happened on the very last day.  We flew kites on the beach.

GG bought all the cousins a kite as a special surprise.  We waited until the last night when the weather was warm and windy.

It was the perfect ending to a fun week.

Katy Perry Smurfette Dress for “Smurfs” Premiere

Katy Perry wore this adorable Smurfette dress to “The Smurfs” movie premiere in New York City last night.  Katy voices the Smurfette character in the movie.  Don’t you love her matching blue Christian Louboutin shoes?

The Fresh Beat Band: Here We Go

You know you’re a Mom when…

You can’t get this song out of your head!  I’ve been singing this all week.  It’s Nick Jr’s “The Fresh Beat Band” and their new single, “Here We Go.”  It’s pretty darn awesome.

Happy Friday.

The Amazing Spider-Man

In 2002, I started my job at an advertising agency where I was responsible for marketing movies. It was a cool gig.  I had to show the films to press so they could do their reviews.  The studios would send their stars and directors into town to participate in press tours and special events.  We even hosted the US premieres for some of the films.  I handled a bunch of A-listers including Nic Cage, John Travolta, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey, Mark Ruffalo, and Angelina Jolie.  I was their local publicist so I don’t have autographs or photos, but I have the memories.

My first memory is of my first week on the job.  I went to a screening and I was starting to meet all the press. It was important to know their names and their press outlets as soon as possible. I was new and I wanted to have a relationship with these people.  It would be crucial that they screened and reviewed my films and participated in any of my local press events.   Plus, the press people get around. They know the city.  They know everyone.  They were well connected and they needed to by my allies.

My main account was Sony Pictures and the press knew that the “new girl” had inherited that account.  How did I know?  Because almost every single one of them asked me about Spider-Man.  “Hi!  You’re Pam, the new publicist?  Spider-Man, right?” I was blessed with an awesome account with great films and EVERYONE was excited about the upcoming summer release of Spider-Man.  I was excited too. I grew up knowing about all the super heroes, but Spider-Man was the coolest.  It was a story I could understand.  It was about an ordinary boy who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes Spider-Man.  (Well, that’s the simplest version.)

It was a JOY to work on the film.  It was exciting to put together fun promotions and special events to distribute hard-to-get tickets to the local premiere of the movie.  Everyone wanted to see it.  And it did not disappoint. It was an awesome film and it broke box office records.  It defined my career at the agency because it gave me an exciting jumping off point.  I was energized.

I also worked on Spider-Man 2.  I left the agency before Spider-Man 3 came out.  Then, everything turned around.  Tobey Maguire and the director Sam Raimi were out.  So was Kirsten Dunst.  Spider-Man was done.

But not so fast!  Sony Pictures is back with The Amazing Spider-Man.  They hired Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as Peter Parker and Emma Stone (Easy A) as Gwen Stacy.  It won’t be the same, but it still looks exciting.  You gotta love Spider-man.

(Oh, another memory was that Spider-Man had that dash between “Spider” and “Man.”  It would drive me nuts.  I had to correct it all the time on my press releases and correspondence.  To this day I will point out to Hubbie if I see it spelled incorrectly.  Some things never leave you.)

Myrtle Beach ’11

It’s been a rough couple of weeks adjusting back to “normal” after our beach vacation.  Plus, add the fact that Hubbie went away for the weekend to attend Queen’s funeral and then, we both got sick. Yeah, good times.  It was some nasty stomach virus and the only up side was that the kiddies did not get it.  THANK GOODNESS.  But, needless to say, the house has not been cleaned and there is laundry piling up.  It took all my energy yesterday to get the house refilled with groceries and toiletries.  Today, I feel much more “normal.”

I was also able to FINALLY download all our beach photos!  We go to Myrtle Beach, SC every summer with my parents and my sister’s family.  They all drive south.  We drive north.  We meet in the middle.  It’s the best case scenario for everyone.  It’s so awesome for all the cousins to hang out together.  They are all around the same age and they love each other so much.  We spent loads of time on the beach, in the waves, in the awesome indoor/outdoor pools, and at Broadway at the Beach.

July 4th is one of my favorite holidays and we threw a party in our beach hotel room to celebrate.  We decorated the windows and had crafts for the kids.  Hubbie made some mean hot dogs and chicken fingers and my sister was in charge of the red, white and blue ice cream treats.  We watched A Capitol Fourth on PBS and danced along to the live performances.  Even Grandma and Grandpa. The night was perfect.  (Although Annabel did miss the flag painting because she was so exhausted. You can see her in the background just snoozing on the sofa.  But, don’t worry,  she was awake before dessert and the fireworks on the balcony.)

Demi Lovato: Skyscraper

There was a time, a few years back, when I could not tell the difference between all the young, cute girls who starred on the popular Disney Channel television shows.  Then, Hannah Montana made Miley Cyrus a HUGE superstar and I saw her first interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show.  I was floored by her immense popularity.  After that, I took notice.  Not just of Miley, but of all the other girls on the scene like Raven Symone and Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.  They were all young and talented and every little girl began to worship them.  You could not miss the posters and bed sheets in all the tween stores.  But I couldn’t tell you which one starred in iCarly or Suite Life of Waverly Place or Wizards of something or other.

Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus in 2009

Then, Miley grew up and showed her independence…maybe she showed a little TOO much of her independence.   Moms like me got upset. What happened to this adorable young star with the big smile whose Daddy was her best friend?  It was reminiscent of when Britney tumbled off that role model pedestal we all built for her.

I now know who Selena Gomez is because she recently started dating boy wonder Justin Bieber.  That’s probably NOT what she wants to be known for, is it?  And then there was poor Demi Lovato.  The headlines were bad.  She got in a fist fight with one her back up dancers. She canceled her tour.  Some said it was because she was depressed about a breakup with her best friend, Joe Jonas. There were also reports that she cut herself and had an eating disorder.  Just some really awful, sad stuff.

Demi left the scene, went to rehab, and took care of herself which, I think, was the most important decision she’s ever made.  I hope she also got lots of hugs from her Mama.  These kids are just that…kids.  They are young girls growing up in front of us.  They were blessed with extraordinary talents, but that doesn’t mean they don’t struggle with peer pressure and body issues and heart break too. And, let’s be honest, it’s magnified for all the world to see.  I know it was their choice (maybe?) to go into the entertainment business and I don’t think I would allow my daughter to enter that world until she was AT LEAST 18 years old, but the truly awesome thing about falling down in front of everyone is that you can also show the world how you can stand right back up.  And that’s what Demi did.  In front of everyone.

Here’s the premiere of the video for her brand new song, Skyscraper.  It’s raw and real and beautiful.  This is what girl power is all about.

The X Factor: First Look Preview!

I can not WAIT for this show!  Simon Cowell is back (and Paula Abdul too! Yay!) on Wednesday, September 21st at 8 PM EST on FOX.

Here’s the world premiere preview of The X Factor.

Princess Kate’s Great Style

The Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine (Kate) Middleton, looked absolutely amazing during her North American tour last week.  She went from Canada to California and every fashion choice she made was stunning.  She is the epitome of a princess.

Here are my favorite outfits that she wore during her week long visit:
